One of the hardest things to do when it is a cloudy day and the sun has decided to relocate at our inconvenience is find motivation. We hit an energy slump, the lack of sun streaming through the window can put an absolute understandable rut in your day, and leave you wanting to crawl back into bed before the day even starts.

In a string of cloudy and may I add cold days, I invested in fuzzy socks, a Netflix binge, but also took time to come up with a recipe that would at the very least help to kick the dreary and weariness to the club. My secret ingredient? No secret, it’s charcoal. And no not the kind you use for the barbecue. It’s activated charcoal, active for deflated days am I right? This stuff is magical! It helps you kickstart your day, even the rest of your week, and be what I like to think of as your sunshine substitute because it can trap bodily toxins, lower cholesterol, reduce gas & bloating, promote kidney function, cures a hangover.

Cloudy Detox Smoothie

  • 1 Frozen Banana

  • 1 Cup Frozen Mango

  • 1 Cup of Almond Milk

  • 1 Scoop of Vanilla Protein Powder

  • 1 Tsp of Activated Charcoal (2 Capsules)

  • 1 Tsp of Vanilla Extract


  • Blend together in a high-powered blender and enjoy with your favorite sustainable straw or drink bottoms up!!

  • DISCLAIMER: I encourage you to read more about activated charcoal before using it! Everybody is different and may react differently. It’s worth mentioning that activated charcoal may also reduce the absorption of certain medications. Consult a healthcare professional prior to taking it.

Serves 1-2 people.


* Add more milk as needed, until you reach the consistency of choice!!

** If your wanting to make this a smoothie bowl, add less liquid and throw on your favorite fresh fruit or granola as a topper.
